UTM builder with a GA4 channel check

Most UTM builders stop at the link. This one also tells you where Google Analytics 4 will file the visit, so your LinkedIn Ads clicks do not end up in Unassigned, and it keeps every campaign name in the same pattern.

How to use the UTM Builder

  1. Pick the channel. Choose LinkedIn Ads, Meta Ads, Google Ads, email or a partner site. The source and medium fill in with values GA4 recognises.
  2. Build the campaign name. Fill in market, product, audience and quarter. The tool joins them into one pattern, so every campaign sorts the same way in reports.
  3. Check the GA4 verdict. The tool shows the GA4 channel the visit will land in and why. If it says Unassigned, change the medium before you launch.
  4. Copy or collect. Copy the link, or add it to your list and download all your links as a CSV for the team.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UTM builder?

A UTM builder adds tracking tags to a link, such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, so Google Analytics can tell which campaign brought each visit. Without them, clicks from LinkedIn Ads, emails and partner sites are hard to tell apart.

Why do my LinkedIn Ads clicks show as Unassigned in GA4?

GA4 sorts visits into channels using the source and medium. A medium it does not recognise, such as "qr" or "sponsored", sends visits to Unassigned. Use a paid medium such as paid_social or cpc together with the source linkedin, and GA4 files the clicks under Paid Social.

Should UTM values be lowercase?

Yes. GA4 channel rules ignore case, but your reports do not: "LinkedIn" and "linkedin" appear as two separate sources. Lowercase values with hyphens instead of spaces keep reports clean.

Do I need UTM tags on Google Ads links?

Keep Google Ads auto-tagging switched on, because it passes cost and keyword data through the gclid. UTM tags are still useful as a backup and for tools outside Google, but they should not replace auto-tagging.

Is my data saved?

Links you add to your list are saved in your own browser so you can come back to them. Nothing is sent to a server.
